Sign Ideas for Your Seattle Food Truck or Restaurant

November 09, 2022

Signs are one of the best ways to attract new customers and increase the average order value (AOV) for your Seattle restaurant or food truck. However, figuring out which type of sign will work best can be confusing—at best.

Read on to learn more about eight different types of restaurant and food truck signs that can help spread the word and grow your business.

Outdoor Signage

As the name suggests, outdoor signage is placed outside of a restaurant. There are many different types of outdoor signage, such as window graphics, banners, dimensions, logos, and many others.

Before you can upsell ‘em, you gotta get ‘em through your front door. Outdoor signage is one of the first touchpoints a person has with your restaurant or food truck. It psychologically sets the stage for what they can expect regarding food quality and ambiance.

There are various outdoor signs, from monument signage to lawn signs and everything in between. If you’re unsure which type of outdoor sign will work best, contact the experts at McNamara Signs for advice.

Banners

Banners can perform double duty. They can function as outdoor or indoor signs.  Installing them in an outdoor location allows people from far away to realize there’s a tasty food truck or restaurant nearby.

Banners are also very affordable compared to other types of permanent signage. If properly taken care of, they can last for many years. If wind or inclement weather is a concern, you can have a mesh banner created. The mesh has thousands of tiny little holes that allow the wind to pass harmlessly through.

Menu Boards

Menu boards are a must-have for any Puget Sound restaurant or food truck. You can have them made in various materials, sizes, and shapes. Food trucks will often have a magnetic or dry-erase board as their menu board.

Restaurants will often have an outdoor menu board created where passersby can learn more about the food served. If you tend to change your menu often, consider using a menu board that you can easily update.

Ceiling Danglers

A ceiling dangler is a special type of sign that—dangles from the ceiling of a restaurant. They can promote special events or inform diners of food or drink specials. You can place your danglers in the dining area (right above the tables or booths) or install them above the hostess area.

You can also use ceiling danglers to celebrate the holidays and make the inside of your restaurant more festive. They go exceptionally well with limited-time holiday food promotions, which will get patrons in the mood.

Table Tents

Both food trucks and restaurants can use table tents to promote their business and participate in local outdoor events, such as “Taste of….” festivals. Tents are very cost-effective, and you can reuse them year after year, provided that you perform a little bit of routine maintenance.

Consider adding a QR code to your table tent, allowing people to scan it with their cell phones and immediately see your online menu. Or you can use the QR code to direct people to a landing page on your website where they can sign up for special offers—or to learn exactly where your food truck will next make an appearance.

Window Decals

Window graphics and decals are another cost-effective way to promote your business and drive new sales. Consider using both text and graphics to make a greater impact. You can also dress up the windows of your restaurant with window graphics, and they won’t mar or damage your windows. Happy hour and limited-time sales are two more things you can promote with window decals.

Sandwich Boards

Sandwich boards, or A-frame signs as they’re more commonly known, are one of the most effective ways to capture the attention of pedestrians and motorists. They’re hard to miss and naturally draw people’s eyes to them.

In addition to showcasing your menu, you can also promote a wide range of things, such as rewards, seasonal promotions, and many other offers that will persuade people to try your food or drinks.
